About the event

A delightful early evening cruise aboard the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer has been arranged for Friday 9th October, 2026. This beautiful craft will take us from Gravesend along the Thames Estuary and up the River Thames, past the Thames Barrier, through our marvellous capital city (which always looks so wonderful from the water!) and then under Tower Bridge! We shall be able to watch it open for us!

Friday 9th October, 2026 Routes A and B – in reverse!

Our coach will depart from Tonbridge Railway Station bus stop, in front of Lidl at 2.45pm, Rose and Crown/Tonbridge Castle bus stop, High St. Tonbridge at 2.55pm, Hadlow Road bus stop (Orchard Drive side) at 3.05pm, Hadlow Square bus stop (opposite the car park) at 3.15pm, the bus stop opposite the Wateringbury Hotel at 3.25pm, Teston Crown City bus stop (restaurant side) at 3.30pm and The Barming Bull bus stop (shop side) at 3.40pm.

Waverley boasts a rich history since her maiden voyage in 1947. Experience the authentic charm of a real steamship as you hear the telegraph ring, witness the engine’s graceful motion and sense the gentle aroma of hot oil and steam. You can even watch the paddles turning through the portholes! With almost 80 years of history, Waverley is not just a ship but a living testament to a bygone era. During your cruise, indulge in a hot or cold snack, a hearty meal in the Dining Saloon, or bring your own packed lunch or soup in a flask. No cruise is complete without visiting the Souvenir Shop, where exclusive gifts and mementos await, allowing you to carry a piece of Waverley’s legacy home with you. Paddle steamer Waverley is registered on The National Historic Fleet as being a vessel of pre-eminent national significance. She has operated in preservation since 1975 and become a “national treasure” carrying over 6 million passengers. Waverley is the sole survivor and has become an icon in her own lifetime.
